AIX pSeries – Turning Off The Amber System Error Attention Light

Quick video on something that took a bit of time and understanding to fix – how to turn off the amber system error attention light on an IBM pSeries box, and why it might come on in the first place

AIX amber system error attention light

So turning off the hazard light: turns out that if an AIX pseries box has been turned off for some time, the hazard light will come on upon bootup (or any other power anomaly will cause it).

Ended up talking with two different techs at IBM support about it and the SOP:

Proper procedure is to turn the light off (this video), and if it comes on again, call IBM support back for further debugging and investigation

So here we go. Use the “diag” command. This works on both aix 5 and aix 6, have not tried yet on aix 7

diag
-> Task Selection
-> log repair action
-> sysplanar0
-> F7 to Committ
-> Enter
-> F10 to exit
